Cornea Specialist
A cornea specialist is an ophthalmologist who specializes in the diagnosis and management of eye disease ranging from the surface of the eye, to the cornea, iris and lens. A true cornea specialist has completed one additional year of elective fellowship training in an accredited program after completion of both four years of medical school and four years of residency. In other words, this physician has undergone the equivalent of 13 years of education and training after high school graduation.
While a cornea specialist is referred complex management problems from other respected eye care practitioners, he or she also typically maintains a practice of patients with other less severe problems. When you see a cornea specialist, you can be assured that you are receiving care from one of the most highly trained eye physicians available whether the diagnosis is routine or complex.
